I don’t need to tell you about Krispy Kreme donuts. I figure that if you’ve found your way here by searching for whether there are gluten free Krispy Kremes that you already know and love those luscious, glazed donuts. But, are Krispy Kreme donuts gluten free? Or, do they make a variety of donuts that is gluten free? Or, do they plan to make gluten free Krispy Kremes in the near future?
NO – Krispy Kreme do not have gluten free donuts/doughnuts
Sorry guys. Krispy Kreme is NOT GLUTEN FREE. And sadly, according to their own website, they do not have any plans at the moment to branch out and try making a gluten free variety of their famous glazed donut. (Am I the only one who feels a bit like crying?) Hopefully this will eventually change, and they’ll decide that it’s worth making gluten free donuts. But for right now, Krispy Kreme are completely off limits to those of us who are either Celiac or gluten intolerant. This is because their donuts are made with wheat flour, and as you know – wheat flour contains gluten. That makes it dangerous for us to eat.
Some gluten free donut recipes
In the meantime, I found some links to some excellent donut recipes that replicate Krispy Kreme’s famous donuts, but use only gluten free ingredients!
- This Krispy Kreme copycat by Seasonal Cravings is baked in the oven, to make it much healthier. But it still retains that lovely glaze AND it has a 4.5-star rating by the home cooks who’ve made them. (Which is very impressive!) You’ll need to invest in a donut pan to make these little lovelies.
- This Incredible Gluten free Yeast Donut recipe by Let them Eat Gluten Free Cake sounds delicious!! They are a true yeast donut, which likely helps replicate the flavor of a true Krispy Kreme donut. I am super impressed by how much these gluten free doughnuts rise! That’s not always an easy task with gluten free yeast doughs; they like to stubbornly stay sluggish and dense. Not these donuts! You will need a few special ingredients to make these, such as xanthan gum and potato starch.
Gluten Free Donut Mixes
If you’re not particularly interested in buying all the special ingredients needed to make gluten free donuts, then we have yet another solution for you! You can buy a pre-made gluten free donut mix. These mixes are ready to use, and you usually only add milk or water and sometimes an egg or two.
Gluten Free Heaven makes a gluten free donut mix that is pretty authentic. It’s a yeast donut mix, so if you’ve been craving a traditional yeasty donut (as Krispy Kremes are!) then this might be what you’re looking for. I like that it gets consistently high reviews. You’d simply need a basic icing sugar glaze to dunk your freshly cooked donuts in, to replicate that Krispy Kreme taste in a gluten free format. Yum!!
Katz Gluten Free Donuts
And, for the easiest gluten free donut option of all – just eat a pack of Katz! Katz makes a wide range of different flavors of gluten free doughnuts. Their top four flavor pack of donuts includes glazed, cinnamon sugar, powdered, and chocolate frosted. But they have other varieties too, such as a jam filled donut.
