Hi everyone! Today’s question we’ll be answering is: “Is coconut flour gluten free?” Coconut flour is becoming a more and more popular baking ingredient, since it is low carb. And it tastes good too. So, let’s find out if using coconut flour in your recipes is safe for Celiacs and/or those with a serious gluten allergy or intolerance.
Does coconut flour have gluten?
Good news – coconut flour IS gluten free! This is always generally true, because coconut flour is simply a product made of ground, dried coconut until it is a powdery consistency. But, as always — there are always risks of cross contamination if your bag of coconut flour does not specifically say gluten free.
That means that other products that DO contain gluten may have been produced in the same manufacturing facility where the coconut flour was made. So, please always use products that are certified gluten free. That means they’ll have a label right on the package that clearly states Gluten Free. We managed to find this bag of gluten free AND organic coconut flour, or this one by Bob’s Red Mill. We love that company!
