Gluten Free restaurants in Halifax, is it possible even during this pandemic? You might wonder as covid-19 has devestated much of the restaurant industry in the country. A lot of restaurants, let alone gluten free restaurants are struggling to survive. Fortunately for Nova Scotia, the pandemic has not been as severe and the province is starting to open up. This means that more restaurants are now open. But what about gluten free restaurants, are there any open? The answer is yes! There are some gluten free restaurants that are open and some with gluten free options are also now open. Good news for Celiacs and gluten intolerant people in the Halifax area! Here are a few options below:
Gluten Free Restaurants Halifax
Odell’s Gluten Free Bakery & Café – Located on 30 Farnham Gate Road, this restaurant is 100% gluten free and Celiac safe. Currently, the cafe and bakery is open for pick up. Due to covid 19 it is best to pre-order a day before pickup to guarantee your order. The hours open are reduced now: the cafe is only open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and the hours of operation on those days arefrom noon to 4pm. Their menu has sandwiches such as odell’s donair wrap, club house sandwich and roast chicken sandwich. It also has pizzas such as baked pepperoni pizza, baked meat lovers pizza, and baked cheese lovers pizza. And poutines such as Odell’s Donair Poutine and Cheeseburger Poutine. They also have take home kits and unbaked pizzas.
Heartwood – Located in two locations with the first on 6250 Quinpool Rd and the second on lower water front location. The restaurant is vegan and gluten free. The restaurants appear to be currently providing take out only. Its take out menu has items such as the Heartwood Bowl, Veggie Burger, Taco salad, Bean Burrito and Green Poutine.
The Wooden Monkey – It has two locations with the first on 1707 Grafton Street and the second on 40 Alderney Drive, #205. Both restaurants are available for dine in service since June 5, 2020. They also still have curb side pick up, if you still feel more comfortable eating at home. It is not a gluten free restaurant but has many gluten free options. Their menu has gluten free options for their Monkey pita, Lamb Burger, Fish and Roasties, and Bacon Cheeseburger. Also, their Gourmet pizzas can be substituted with a rice crust but might not be suited for Celiacs as the rice pizza crust is produced in same facility that produces wheat.
There are excellent dining options for gluten sufferers in Halifax. This is good because Halifax is known for their delicious food – both seafood and otherwise. This means that gluten intolerant people can also enjoy tasty dishes like the rest do. So go out and pick up, or dine in or even have a delicious gluten free meal right to your home.
