Updated January 6, 2025

Gluten free chocolate chip cookies, doesn’t that sound good? Indeed it does as chocolate chip cookies are one of the most popular cookies on the planet. How can you go wrong with delicious cookies speckled with lots of chocolate chips or chunks? However, more and more people are gluten intolerant and need to have a gluten free option. Are there gluten free options and are they any good?

Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, Lots of Options

Oh yes! Thankfully there are a lot of gluten free options and you can buy them from a variety of locations. Here are a few below:

Grocery Stores and Supermarkets – Most of the major grocery store chains have a gluten free section. And in most cases, there are either packaged cookies or gluten free mixes for you to make them at home. (The easy-to-find gluten free chocolate chip cookie mix we swear by is by Betty Crocker. We’ve made two boxes of those at a time to share with friends, and none of them could even guess they were gluten free! So insanely good!)

Local Bakeries – Some of the best cookies are found at your local bakery and more bakeries either have gluten free options and even some are completely gluten free. For example, one of the best that I ever had was at a gluten free bakery in Old Montreal called Cookie Stefanie as few years ago. So have a look at some of your local bakeries, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Make Your Own – There are a lot of recipes in books or on the internet for chocolate chip cookies that uses many alternatives to flour. For example, here’s a link to a recipe from the New York times that uses almond flour. Almond flour is an awesome gluten free flour that is also packed with far more protein and nutrients than some other types of gluten free flour. (And of course it tastes like almonds, which means it is delicious.)
