Yes, London and England in general is world renowned for its delicious pastries such as scones, clotted cream, cakes and so on. But to think that it would be possible to make any of these gluten free would have sounded like madness! However, now it is a reality. Today there are gluten free bakeries in London that make pastries and sweets that are delicious. Who knew? Here’s a list of some of London’s best.

Cookies and Scream (Gluten Free and Vegan Bake Shop) – Located on 130 Holloway Road in Highbury East London, this bakery is fully vegan and gluten free. The bakery was established in 2010 and every product is gluten free, dairy free, egg free and wheat free. It has a large selection of cookies, brownies, pies and donuts. There is also a selection of scream shakes which can be blended with either a brownie or a cookie. Ummm, hello. That sounds like an absolute delight! COVID UPDATE – Currently only operating as a takeout operation.
Vida Bakery – Located on 139 Brick Lane in East London, this bakery is 100% gluten free, dairy free and egg free. The bakery opened in the summer of 2018 and offers a nice selection of cakes and cup cakes. It also offers a large list of wholesale items for stores and other businesses to purchase. The little cakes in tubs look incredible – all vegan and free of gluten, of course. The Victoria sponge ‘cake in a tub’ really caught our eye.
Elvira’s Secret Pantry (Artisan Italian Bakery) – Located on 71 Groveland Road in Beckenham South London, this bakery is gluten free, dairy free, yeast free, and vegan. It has a large selection of homemade sweet and savoury treats full of Italian flavours. The bakery also has a nice selection of breads and pastas. If someone wants to improve in their cooking skills, the bakery even offers cooking classes. (Due to COVID restrictions, please check ahead to see if these are currently still running.)

No longer will gluten sensitive people in London will have to suffer. Yes, there are now options when they want to have a sweet treat or a dessert.
