Does McDonald’s have gluten free buns?

Does McDonald’s have a gluten free bun? That’s the question you want the answer to, and yes I do have the answer!

But sadly the answer is NO.

McDonald’s has not come out with a gluten free bun as of time of writing. But, there are still some options for you if you’d like to eat at McDonald’s and enjoy a burger.

Are McDonald’s burger patties gluten free?

Yes, McDonald’s beef burger patties ARE technically gluten free. But, McDonald’s is very careful not to label any of their food as officially gluten free due to issues of cross contamination. Cross contamination basically means that because they don’t carefully cook their gluten free items away from items that DO contain gluten, even the gluten free items may be contaminated with gluten. And therefore, that makes them unsafe to eat.

If you have only a mild gluten intolerance, you might choose to try a Mcdonald’s burger on its own, or wrapped in lettuce. (You can ask for that option!) The other toppings are also gluten free: ketchup, mustard, onions and pickles.

Can I bring in my own gluten free bun?

Of course you can! You can transport your own gluten free bun with you to McDonald’s if you decide you want to eat a burger with a bun. But, the kitchen staff likely will not create the burger for you. There is no way they can safely do so without cross contamination. But, if you’re willing to you can take the cooked burger and toppings and arrange your own burger yourself.

Are McDonald’s burgers gluten friendly?

No, guys, they really cannot be called gluten free. They are gluten friendly ONLY if you have the mildest intolerance to gluten, because there are serious cross contamination issues that are of great concern. If you are Celiac or have a gluten allergy, then eating McDonald’s hamburgers are just not a safe choice.
